Consider hardened, genuine parts to improve longevity in hard conditions

Investing in genuine, strengthened points for cultivators this autumn could significantly improve the longevity of wearing metal compared with non-genuine or standard points, providing users with a better return on investment and reduced downtime. A lack of moisture during the growing season has baked many seedbeds and will mean growers risk spending significantly more money on wearing metal at a time when margins are increasingly tight. Ed Loder, arable product specialist for KUHN, says there’s a strong case to invest in OEM and hardened parts to increase the working life from soil engaging points. “Every grower will be analysing the return on investment this year and wearing metal is likely to be a greater cost than many had budgeted for. Although genuine, hardened parts are more expensive, they last between six and eight times longer than standard ones, so the additional cost means each point will cover more ground and changes will be less frequent.”

KUHN’s V-shaped DuraKarb technology on the 80-50mm points, fitted to the KUHN Cultimer and Performer stubble cultivators, will last eight times longer than the same points without the treatment. It’s similar for the DuraKarb goose foot shares on the KUHN Prolander that features carbide plates embedded and brazed on the leading edge, which don’t increase the thickness of the tine, but offer six times the working life. “Purchasing genuine parts means users benefit from thousands of test hours for each individual item, along with compliance for quality and safety regulations. Buyers also know the parts have been designed to fit their machine, leading to even wear and better reliability.”
