ProCam upgrades its contract crop spraying service in Scotland
Leading agricultural supply company, ProCam, has upgraded its contract crop spraying service operating from its Robertson Crop Services depot at Kildary, Invergordon, with a new 3,000-litre capacity sprayer. The new Knight KDM 1030 sprayer, mounted on a new JCB Fastrac 4220 Icon, will cover Easter Ross, The Black Isle, Sutherland and Moray areas, says ProCam regional manager, Alistair Gordon. It has the ability to work on 24 or 28-metre tramline widths, and features boom height control, autosteer and GPS section control, allowing for accurate application of crop protection inputs and liquid fertiliser, Mr Gordon points out. “As well as providing a contract spraying service for arable crops such as cereals, younger oilseed rape crops and potatoes, its GPS-guided technology also makes it useful for spraying grassland where tramlines aren’t present,” Mr Gordon explains. “The mechanical drive of the JCB Fastrac also offers useful traction when spraying on inclines and in a range of field conditions. “We find that many farmers prefer to have fields contract sprayed. As well as removing the need to tie up farm capital in buying a sprayer, plus maintaining it, using a contract spraying service can remove the need for the farm to have its own spray store, because we can take the chemicals with us. This can be very useful on smaller farms.”
In addition to the new sprayer, Mr Gordon says ProCam has expanded its animal feed storage facility at its Kildary, Invergordon depot. “This increased storage capacity has been created with the aim of providing customers with improved continuity of supply of certain feeds that can sometimes take time to get into stock,” he explains. “The rainwater from the roof of this expanded storage facility is also being harvested for use in the contract spraying operation.”
